Fireworks In Parliament During Debate On 'Intolerance': Highlights
New Delhi: After a discussion on the Constitution last week to mark the 125th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar, lawmakers in Parliament is today debating the perceived "intolerance" in the country.

Here are the highlights
  • Before the debate, I would like to request all members who feel intolerance is growing, please give your suggestion on how to stop them: Rajnath Singh

Mohd Salim (CPM)
  • Many people say that such incidents are small, I disagree, it is a serious issue. In fact the term intolerance is also mild for such incidents.
  • All those who have given their hearts and lives to build the nation, they have tried to put their views across.
  • Debate discussion dissent is a part of democracy. If someone is not agreeing with you, then democracy gives you the right to do so.
  • Minister says it is manufactured dissent... Who are you insulting, CN Rao, Narayan Murthy... The list kept growing.
  • We were told that we are insulting the country by raising the issue of growing intolerance. Our culture values tradition teaches tolerance.
  • This is not a fascist country, this is democratic country. We got the Constitution after 200 years of fighting for independence.
  • We want a rational India, secular India. Governments come and go, we are all tenants here and not owners
  • Advani and Surendra Kulkarni all are sitting they are veterans but its sad that PM who is always tweeting , we hoped he will take the country forward is not saying anything on such incidents if he can tweet on other things why not such pressing issues.
  • People chose their leader with a lot of expectation. We thought it will be Development, and taking everyone along... Techie murdered, Dadri incident, Kalburgi, Pansare, Dabholkar.
  • Hidden agenda, there is no hidden agenda, we can see it clearly.
  • First they said small incidents, then they said fringe elements.
  • Where is this tradition in India that when Dalits are killed, we talk of dogs.
  • You can hear the voices in Times Square but you can't hear the voices at home here.
  • You need to have incoming along with outgoing as well. You needed the verdict of Bihar for you to listen.
  • Why one industrialist close to the corridors of power has made money due to less pulses in market.
  • Question is who doesn't have food to eat, government needs to focus on that.
  • Mohammad Akhlaq was made qurbani ka bakra (Dadri). His son was told to go abroad etc, he said 'saare jahan se achcha, Hindustan humara'.
  • What the government did after coming to power. Rajnath Singh had said after 800 years a Hindu has become ruler
Rajnath Singh
  • This is a huge allegation. He should prove it or apologise.
Mohd Salim (CPM)
I want Home Ministry to send a notice to the magazine for quoting him wrongly.

Speaker
  • Does the reporter mention that Rajnath Singh said that

Mohd Salim
  • Quoting Rajnath Singh from the magazine, "After Prithviraj Chauhan, we have a Hindu ruler after 800 years".

Saugata Roy (TMC)
  • It is true that notice should be given. Outlook magazine is dated November 16, two weeks have passed. If it was not true, home minister should have taken note and issued a denial letter. Why did he not do it?
