Pakistani Troops Violate Ceasefire in J&K, India Retaliates to Firing
Srinagar: The Pakistani Army on Saturday night violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control in Mendhar Sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said on Sunday.

"The Pakistani troops violated the bilateral ceasefire resorting to unprovoked firing at our positions on the LoC in Mendhar sector. The firing stated at 11.30 pm Saturday night," said defence spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta.

"The Pakistani troops used small arms and automatics in the firing. The Indian troops responded with equal calibre weapons," Colonel Mehta said.

The Indian Army on Sunday also foiled an infiltration bid on the LoC in the district.

The infiltration bid was the second one in less than two days on the LoC, an official said.

"A group of five to six militants tried to sneak into our side of the LoC in Dera Dabsi area in Poonch at night," said a defence spokesman.

"Our troops fired at the infiltrators who had to withdraw. No casualty occurred on our side although the militants also fired at the Indian troops after being challenged," he said.
