Jammu:
In the seventh case of ceasefire violation this month, Pakistani troops fired at several Indian posts along the border in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir last night.
"Pakistan troops have fired with small arms, light and medium weapons on several Indian posts along Indo-Pak border in Krishnagati sub-sector along Line of Control (LoC) of Poonch district from 2230 hours last night," PRO Defence, Colonel RK Palta told PTI.
"They have also violated the ceasefire," he said. They opened fire on Indian posts of Kripan, Kranti and Battal along Line of Control (LoC) from 2230 hours till 2330 hours last night, Palta said.
"The firing of small arms, light and medium weaponry continued for one hour," he said.
There was retaliation from the Indian side as they observed calm, he said. However there was no loss of life or damage to property in the firing.
In another such incident, Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire and fired on Abdullian border outpost along International Border in RS Pura sector in Jammu district yesterday for brief period, officials said.
However, there was no loss of life or damage to property reported in the firing, which continued for few minutes.
This is the seventh case of ceasefire violation in October this year.
Pakistan had violated ceasefire 25 times in the past two months long International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in the state.
One October 17, Pakistani troops resorted to small arms firing on forward border belts of Goutrian and Mankote (separate areas) along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had asked Pakistan to respect the ceasefire, saying guns were no solution to any issue. Omar had said, "...We also have guns and mortars. If we also start firing, where will this stop?"
On October 7 and 4th, Pakistan troops had fired on forward posts along International Border in Kharwa and Chachwal area in Samba sector. On October 1, Pakistani troops had resorted to firing over Indian posts and Chachwal forward village along International Border in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir in which a couple were injured.
One September 20, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire by opening indiscriminate firing on Indian side to stall digging work to uncover the 550-meter long tunnel from Pakistan into Indian territory along Indo-Pak border in Chachwal area of Samba sector.
On September 17, Pakistani troops fired RPGs and opened indiscriminate small and heavy weaponry firing on 5 Indian Posts in Krishangati forward areas along LoC in Poonch sector.
On September 10, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire twice and fired RPGs and opened indiscriminate small arms firing on Indian Posts in Nangi-Tikri and Sabzian forward areas of along LoC in Poonch sector.
On August 21 this year, Pakistan troops targeted 3 Indian posts of Narayanpur, Pindi and Stop-2 posts along IB in Samba sector of J&K without causality. On August 19, 20th Pakistani Rangers fired on Indian posts of Mala Bela, Garkhal and Sidra camp along IB in Akhnoor sector in which one Pak intruder was killed.
On August 19, Pakistan troops violated ceasefire by firing on the forward posts in Krishnagati belt along Line of Control in Poonch sector.
On August 17, there was heavy cross-border small arms firing on India posts along IB in Abdullian and Korotona Border outposts from Pakistan in RS Pura sub-sector in which one BSF jawan Chander Rai was killed.
There were 47 ceasefire violations this year followed by 51 cases in 2011, 44 cases of ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir were registered in 2010 and 28 were in 2009.
