New Delhi: As ex-servicemen today said they were not satisfied with the One Rank One Pension (OROP) announced by the government, Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh said this is what the government can give.

"The government has taken a decision, this is what we can give," Mr Singh said in response to a question, on the sidelines of the press conference to announce the scheme supposed to equalise pensions for soldiers retiring in the same rank.

The Minister said the government was implementing the scheme despite financial difficulties as it was a promise it had made.

He said they will try to convey to the veterans that the scheme was for their welfare.

Asked about the one-member judicial committee that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar announced, Mr Rao Inderjit said: "OROP is an extensive issue. The committee will also take views from the veterans and sort out the pending issues."

The government today announced implementation of OROP, even as veterans said the scheme was not in consonance with their demands.
