Now, a film on Mamata Banerjee's life

Now, a film on Mamata Banerjee's life
Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee has now turned muse not for a poet or a painter but for a filmmaker who is making a full length feature in Bengali on the mercurial Trinamool leader.

The film, in which the protagonist is called Maya Banerjee, should release early next year, before the Assembly polls in Bengal. The film apparently ends with the 2011 poll results but stops short of showing who wins.

The rubber chappals, the cotton saree and the familiar stride. Mamata Banerjee? Look again. In fact it is Ruma Chakraborty, a theatre actor, practicing Mamata's mannerisms for her role as the Trinamool supremo in a Bengali film on her called hat else, Didi.

How Didi talks, how much lip movement there is, how she walks, how she looks at something, I am practicing that very hard. I've told the director Bidyutda I want to meet her at least once for that," said actor Ruma Chakraborty.

Director Bidyut Sarkar will begin shooting on December four. His budget is one crore rupees. He has asked Mamata to sing a song for the film. But she hasn't said yes or no so far.

"I am a fan of Mamata Banerjee since 1984. I have great faith in her. I am her devotee. After seeing her movement for the poor, her sacrifice, she has become a goddess for me which is why I'm making this film on her," said Bidyut Sarkar, the director making the film.

The film will trace Mamata's life from the early 70s to the 2011 Assembly polls. In fact it will apparently end with the election commissioner announcing the poll result. But the result is not spelt out in the film. The film should release by end January, well before the real -life Assembly elections are held in the state.
