Nothing to apologise for in Gujarat riots: Modi

New Delhi:

As the election fever rises, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi remains defiant over his role in the Gujarat riots saying he had nothing to apologise for.

"I have nothing to apologise for," the BJP star campaigner said in an interview to a private news channel.

Defending himself against allegations of being callous towards the plight of Gujarat after the post-Godhra riots, he said, "Why are you being generous? Do not forgive Narendra Modi, if he has done anything wrong. Hang him publicly if you find him guilty."

Throwing the gauntlet at the Congress government, he said, "Nobody will be happier than the government at the Centre to see Modi in a tight spot. So why haven't they acted against me."

The Gujarat Chief Minister attacked the media time and again for what he thought was its uni-dimensional view of him, the channel said in a release.

On the release of terrorists during the Kandahar plane hijack, he said, "Why was the Congress silent then? They should be put in the dock over their silence. There was an all-party meeting and the Congress too had attended it. There was a consensus over the issue."

On Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's purported remarks that Modi need not campaign in his state, he said, "Don't defame a gentleman like Nitish. Nitish and me are friends. I was the first one to reach out to Nitish during the Bihar floods."
