No Games documents stolen, say police

New Delhi: Delhi Police have said that no Commonwealth Games documents were stolen from a car in the Capital. Reports earlier said that an assistant project manager's car was broken into some days ago and papers about security deployment at some Commonwealth Games venues were stolen while the official's car was parked in the basement of the headquarters building at Jai Singh Road when the theft occurred.

The news had served as a shock to the organisers who are in the process of finalising the security details for the 2010 Games. A case was registered and the police investigated.

But the police now say the main deployment plans, which are still being fine-tuned, are intact with them. While the FIR had mentioned a couple of official files and papers, which also had details of security walls, after investigation the police said that none of these papers were taken.

The Games officials claimed that it was mainly a theft of a car stereo mainly. They expressed concern that there could have been some security-linked papers also missing from the car, but these may not have been of high-level security.

The car stereo, car registration papers and some other material were, however, stolen. The police say they are also looking at the CCTV footage of the underground parking to try and narrow down on the culprit.

The robbery at the CWG is however a matter of some concern and this may accelerate the deployment of the CISF to take over security of the headquarters building in the capital. The officials are treating this as a wake-up call and reviewing security.
