No action against minister accused of dowry demands?

Lucknow: Twenty-four year old Preeti is not giving up her fight for justice. The nurse from Banda, who accused the UP sports minister Ayodhya Prasad Pal and his son Om of dowry harassment, took her case to Mayawati's top police officer on Thursday.

Preeti wants the minister and his son to be arrested for demanding Rs 50 lakh as dowry.

She says the minister's son will be hurriedly married off by the 13th of this month - a marriage she wants stalled by the police until she gets justice.

"I had come here to meet the Deputy General of Police (DGP). I want the minister and his son arrested, and his wedding to another girl stopped, but the police has said they will not do that, they have ruined my life, however the DGP has assured me that he will act on the complaint," said Preeti.

Engaged to the minister's son, the wedding was called off because Preeti and her father failed to pay the dowry.

It was only when the local court in Chitrakoot stepped in, that the minister and his son were booked under the dowry act, but almost ten days have gone by and the police is yet to record the minister and his son's statements.

"If nothing happens on the investigation front, then I will also go and meet Mayawati. She is a woman and she will understand another woman's plight. She has acted against her party men in the past and I am hopeful she will act in this case too," said Prabal Pratap Pal, Preeti's father.

But despite this reluctance, both father and daughter are determined to fight this out.

"I will continue to fight till they don't act against these two," said Preeti.
