NIA takes Patna blasts accused to Delhi

Uzair Ahmed taken into custody

Patna: Uzair Ahmed, one of the main accused in the Patna blasts that killed six people and injured 83 ahead of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's rally last Sunday, has been taken to Delhi by the National Investigation Agency or NIA.

Ahmed, who was arrested on Wednesday, allegedly raised money for the operation through a man named Muzamail Sadab, who works at a mosque in Ranchi, in the name of religious causes. Ahmed is believed to have been involved in the 2011 blast at the Delhi High Court, in which 11 people were killed and nearly 80 injured.

According to the police, Ahmed worked as an electrician in a local newspaper office in Patna, and is married to a girl from Tanzania; she has been ruled out of having any connection with the blasts.

Ahmed's nephew Munaam Ansari was also interrogated earlier this week, and a lot of evidence has been recovered from his home. Ansari, police sources say, is likely to testify against the other accused men.

Two of the six accused men, who have been named in the First Investigation Report, Imtiaz Ansari and Ainul alias Tarique, were arrested on the day of the blast, when a bomb exploded in a toilet at the Patna railway station when they were assembling it. Tarique died on Thursday night of splinter injuries in his brain. His body is yet to claim his body, according to the police.

Two other accused, Nauman and Taufique Alam, are missing.

Though the NIA has taken over the case, the Bihar Police is assisting it in its investigation.
