New homes for Slumdog child stars?

Mumbai: Slumdog Millionaire's child stars Rubina and Azhar may not have to live in the fear of the bull dozers anymore.

The state government's housing board and the Jai Ho trust financed by the director of the film Slumdog Millionaire, are both attempting to buy new homes for the stars after their illegal shanties were demolished by civic authorities.

"We have spoken to Nirja of Jai Ho and they have asked us to select a house," said Rafiq Querishi, Rubina's father.

These new efforts come after demolition of the shanties where Azhar and Rubina live. Bulldozed last week, they have propped up again.

Azhar's father though is not convinced about the intentions of the two agencies, especially since these promises have been made in past but not delivered.

"We have been shown the world, but we will only believe it once we move there," said Mohammad Ismail, Azhar's Father.

But authorities fear that because Rubina and Azhar are children, their parents may misuse the state benefit and either try and sell off or mortgage the homes. So, they want to ensure additional safeguards.
