New Delhi: BJP central leadership on Saturday failed to convince cricketer-turned-MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is sulking at a local appointment at the behest of his rival in the party, to take back his resignation.
Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, who is believed to have been given the responsibility of talking to Sidhu, discussed the matter with the MP from Amritsar. Jaitley had failed to convince Sidhu on Friday as well.
"It is a local issue and the matter will be resolved in a day or two. There is nothing to worry now," a source close to Jaitley said.
Sidhu had submitted his resignation to BJP parliamentary party head L K Advani on Friday over the appointment of a former BJP MLA Rajinder Mohan Chhina as chairperson Amritsar Improvement Trust without his consent.
Sidhu had sent a letter to Advani expressing his resentment against the appointment of Chhina as chairperson of the Amritsar Improvement Trust.
Party sources said that during the recent general elections, Sidhu trailed by 30,000 votes in the assembly segment of Amritsar from where Chhina had contested last time. The former cricketer believes Chhina had worked against him during the polls.
