A tight security blanket was thrown across the country on the eve of Independence Day to thwart any terror strike even as an elaborate ground-to-air security apparatus was put in place in the capital where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolour tomorrow.
Personnel from Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in and around the city, especially near the Red Fort from where Dr Singh will also address the nation.

In the northeast, six militant groups have called for a boycott of Independence Day celebrations and announced a general strike tomorrow from 1.30 am to 5.30 pm.
