Mysore bandh call evokes partial response

Mysore bandh call evokes partial response
Mysore:

The bandh call given by a Hindu outfit to protest the attack on a BJP youth wing leader in Mysore evoked a mixed response, even as tension continued in some areas in the wake of clashes sparked by the alleged desecration of a madrasa.

City transport services operated a few buses, while some private vehicles and autorickshaws plied on the roads.

A few persons have been arrested in connection with the clashes and stabbing incidents, police said, but did not give details.

The dawn to dusk bandh has been called by the Hindu Jagran Vedika after a BJP activist, and his friend Wajid were attacked with sharp weapons by two assailants last evening.

The communal tension that rocked Udayagiri and adjoining areas here has left three persons including a child dead.

Trouble broke out on Thursday after the alleged desecration following which members of a community attacked and killed a 47-year-old labourer who was on his way to work. In retaliation, two persons were fatally stabbed by members of other community.

State Home Minister Dr V S Acharya is likely to visit the city later in the day and also the affected areas, sources said.
