Muzaffarnagar riots: I am in my constituency, not hiding, says BJP's Sangeet Som

Muzaffarnagar riots: I am in my constituency, not hiding, says BJP's Sangeet Som

"If I have made incendiary speeches, they should produce a clipping," BJP MLA Sangeet Som said.

Sangeet Som of the BJP is facing an arrest warrant for allegedly provoking the communal riots that killed 50 people and created 40,000 refugees in Muzaffarnagar. He spoke to the media in Lucknow, where he was attending the Uttar Pradesh assembly. Here are the highlights:

  • It is being said that I am on the run. I am in my constituency, I have attended the Vidhan Sabha today and I have even spoken to TV channels.
  • The government wants to blame us for its own inefficiency.
  • If I have made incendiary speeches, they should produce a clipping
  • To please a specific community, we are being booked, I have demanded a CBI inquiry.
  • We went there when we were invited. The BJP did not organise the mahapanchayat.
  • We want this whole issue to be discussed in the house first and then other business to be undertaken.
  • No police officer has questioned me.
  • If it is found that I have uploaded the said CD clips, I am willing to accept the charges against me.
  • The riots happened because the government isn't acting in an impartial manner
  • Azam Khan should be arrested. The riots happened because of him.
