Mumbai Model Rape Case: Two Police Officers Transferred

A 29-year-old model was raped by policemen in Mumbai

Mumbai:

Two police officers have been transferred in the case of the rape of a model, allegedly inside the Saki Naka police station in Andheri. The two were senior Inspector Prasanna More, in charge of the police station, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Holkar, sources told NDTV.

Three policemen have been arrested in the case - besides five others. One of the persons arrested is a woman. The policemen are likely to be suspended as well and more arrests are expected in the case, sources said.

The rape allegedly took place on April 4 at a police outpost near a five star hotel, where the 26-year-old model had gone for an audition.

According to her complaint, when she was coming out of the hotel, the policemen stopped her and asked her to get into their vehicle.

She was sexually assaulted through the night inside the police station in Andheri. The men also allegedly extorted Rs 4.5 lakh from her.

The arrests took place after the model contacted Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, saying she had fled the city after the rape, fearing harassment.

Cases of rape, sexual harassment and extortion have been filed against two assistant police inspectors, a constable and three others.

The lawyer for the accused argued in court that the his clients were not guilty and that the woman had been booked earlier for immoral trafficking. But the court order said the "offence becomes aggravated because of the place it allegedly took place in".
