Lucknow: Taking a strong note of the alleged gang-rape and subsequent death of a 16-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district, the state government on Tuesday ordered a magisterial probe in the case.

"The magisterial probe of the incident in Mirzapur has been ordered by the District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Singh," Inspector General, Law and Order A Satish Ganesh said.

Apart from the probe, the police station in-charge related to the case has also been suspended.

"The police station in-charge of Padari, Atmaram Yadav who was charged of laxity has been suspended," Mr Ganesh said.

The girl, a student of Class 11, was found hanging on December 25. Her mother, who recently won the block development council polls, alleged that her political rivals had raped her daughter, which led to the suicide.

The two accused Pappu Bahelia and Bindu Bahelia were arrested by the police under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 after the girl's death.

However, a statement issued by the state government later in the evening said, "Post mortem by a panel of two doctors did not confirm rape. Slides have been sent for further examination."
