Mayawati's 'monument force' bypasses Governor

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Maywawati has virtually bypassed the Governor to recruit a special force of 1,200 ex-Armymen to protect the statues across nine parks in the state.

The force would be set up at a monumental cost of Rs 9 crore, even as the Supreme Court examines the crores of taxpayers' money being spent on monuments of Dalit icons. (Read: Mayawati spends crores on guards for memorials)

The recruitment begins today even though the Bill for a special security force is yet to get the Governor's approval.

The Chief Minister wants to eventually have a 2-lakh-strong force that is estimated to cost Rs 67 crore.

The Mayawati government plans to approach the Adjutant General's office that has records of ex-Armymen looking for reemployment with the state governments.

Once the state government has these details then only will they initiate the recruitment drive.

Also don't expect "Recruitment Drive" ad's to appear in newspapers. All the recruitment will happen directly from the list given by the Adjutant General's office.

Those officers and jawans who have retired during the last one month or are likely to retire in the next one month stand better chances of being recruited. Preference will also be given to cases of voluntary retirement, short service commission officers, likely to retire in the recent future etc.
