Man makes 'mischievous remarks' onboard plane, held

New Delhi: A 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly making "mischievous remarks" on board a London-bound flight at the Indira Gandhi International airport here, police sources said on Thursday.

Nurul Huda, a resident of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended yesterday at the airport as the Emirates Airways flight EK511 from Delhi to London via Dubai was taxiing for take-off, they said.

He was offloaded by security personnel from the plane at around 11 am after a woman co-passenger complained to the cabin crew that she heard him speaking over his cellphone in a "suspicious" way.

"The cabin crew then informed the captain who decided to abort the take-off. The man was offloaded and was handed over to police. The flight was delayed by over an hour," officials said.

Huda, who was on his way to London, allegedly said the plane is about to take off and that it will explode, according to the sources.

He was questioned at the airport by intelligence agencies and at around 7 pm he was handed over to police which placed him under arrest.

Huda is said to be associated with prominent Islamic seminary Darul Uloom in Deoband, according to the sources. However, there was no official confirmation on this.
