Indore: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told farmers in Indore today that their wheat would be purchased at minimum support price (MSP).

Mr Chouhan paid a surprise visit to Maheshwar Krishni Upaj Mandi (agriculture produce market) at Khargone district, for a first-hand feel of the system as well as to see the infrastructure in place to procure wheat from farmers.

"The Madhya Pradesh government would purchase wheat from farmers at minimum support price (MSP)," Mr Chouhan said.

He told farmers at the market that during the spring season, his government would buy wheat from areas affected due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm.

Mr Chouhan said that had his state government not opted to buy wheat, farmers would have been left with no other option other than selling off their wheat at cheap prices, much below Rs 1,000 per quintal.

He said that a tin shed structure would be built at the market, based on farmers' demands.

Mr Chouhan talked to the farmers and received their feedback on facilities at the market.
