New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the Kashmiri people and spoke of the attack in Uri, saying, "The onus of protecting the Kashmiri people lies with the Government of India" and the army will continue foiling attacks like Uri "so our citizens can live in peace".

"We have faith in our soldiers," he said in his monthly radio programme Mann ki Baat. "For us citizens, political leaders, there are many opportunities to talk and we do talk. But the Army doesn't talk. They speak through their valour."

The Uri attack of September 18, in which 18 soldiers died, "was a loss for the entire nation," he said, emphasizing again that the "guilty will be punished".

India has strongly taken on Pakistan following the attack in Uri, in which, investigations have indicated the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists. PM Modi has endorsed a plan to isolate Pakistan diplomatically and the nation has provided a strong response to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's address at the UN Human Rights Council, where he had eulogized terrorist Burhan Wani.

As for the Kashmiri people, PM Modi today said they have "started to recognise the elements who oppose our country".

The people in Kashmir, he said, were adopting path of peace and progress. "The parents want schools and colleges to start working soon. Kashmiris are keen that their food products and fruits reach other parts of Indian market... business and commerce should also work smoothly".

Yesterday in Kerala, PM Modi had again sent out a strong message to Pakistan, underscoring its support to terror. Wherever a terror attack takes place, "it emerges either the terrorist set out from there, or after the attack, like Osama Bin Laden, took refuge there."

To the people of Pakistan, he further said, "Ask your leaders -- Both our countries got freedom together. Why does India export software and yours export terrorists?"
