Karnataka to build 2 lakh homes for flood victims

Bangalore: There is respite in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, after five days of torrential rain left more than 205 people dead and lakhs displaced. With the rains holding off for the last couple of days and water levels receding, the focus in Karnataka has shifted to rehabilitation.

The state government announced on Monday that it will build 2 lakh homes for the flood-affected. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa says the project will be undertaken with private help, and funds that he expects to raise on a pad yatra in Bangalore on October 7.

Several villages in the Cauvery and Krishna basins will have to be permanently shifted.
