Karnataka land scam: Govt orders judicial probe
Bangalore/New Delhi: The Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka has announced a judicial inquiry into the land scam allegedly involving the Chief Minister and his family.

The panel, to be headed by a former Supreme Court or High Court judge, will look into all alleged land scams in the past 10 years. That means deals during previous Congress and JD (S) governments will also be investigated.

Meanwhile, the BJP has gone into damage control mode and the Karnataka Chief Minister has been called by party leadership for discussions in New Delhi.

The party has reportedly decided that the Chief Minister's family will return the land which was allotted to them illegally.

This comes after the BJP core group met at the residence of senior leader L K Advani in the wake of demands by the Opposition parties in the state for the chief minister's resignation.

"The core group decided that in the next few days, the national leadership will discuss all these matters with the Chief Minister and other important ministers. We will talk to them, and possibly call the main leaders to Delhi and after that whatever is decided will be conveyed to you," BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.

There are also reports that there are divisions within BJP in the state with some MLAs reportedly initiating a campaigning for his removal.
