Shimla: Union Minister JP Nadda today demanded that Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh resigned over corruption charges against him and questioned the "silence" of top Congress leadership on the issue.

In a statement issued in Shimla today, the Union Minister for Health said Virbhadra Singh should "immediately resign" as the Chief Minister on "moral grounds over serious charges of corruption against Mr Singh and his family members."

"After the raid by Enforcement Directorate at three places, the charges of money laundering against Singh have gained credence and the intriguing silence of Congress High Command raises a question that whether the Central Congress also got the 'cut' and what is the compulsion of the Congress party in not showing the courage to remove Singh from his post," he said in the statement.

Mr Nadda further questioned the "silence" of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi on the issue.

"Silence of Rahul Gandhi, who is an expert on carrying out malicious propaganda is shameful and has exposed the double standards of Congress Party besides proving that the party which was allegedly responsible for scams like 2G, CWG and Adarsh and was "shielding corruption".

"The people of Himachal are paying the price for the silence of Sonia and Rahul and all developmental activities have come to a halt as chief minister is busy in saving his chair and it is high time that quits on moral grounds," said Mr Nadda, a Rajya Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh.
