Jail Superintendent Held For 'Indecent Activity' With Girl In Bihar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar yesterday took strong note of the 'indecent activity' and ordered immediate "stern action".

Kishanganj/Patna: The superintendent of Kishanganj Jail was suspended yesterday and arrested last night for alleged 'indecent activity' with a minor girl after a photograph of it went viral on social media.

The jail superintendent, Kripa Shankar Pandey, was suspended and a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him, confirmed the Inspector General of Jail, Anand Kishore.

Mr Pandey was later arrested and taken to the Sadar police station, its station house officer Aftab Ahmed said.

After returning to Patna from New Delhi, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday afternoon took strong note of the 'indecent activity' which was captured on camera and went viral on social media, and ordered immediate "stern action".

The girl in question was the daughter of a foodgrain shopkeeper, who had been supplying food items in the Kishanganj jail for many years, a report from Kishanganj said.

Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ranjan had on Tuesday asked Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kamini Wala to probe the matter.

The SDPO, while talking to reporters on Tuesday night, had said prime facie the allegation was true.

Asked about the incident, the jail superintendent last night claimed he had "fatherly relation with the girl". When questioned about the photographs, Mr Pandey said "If photographs are indecent what can I do. You derive any meaning you want."

Some months ago, a complaint of indulging in "unnatural sex" with the inmates on trial was levelled against Mr Pandey, who was the jailor in the Kishanganj prison at that time.

Then district magistrate of Kishanganj, Animesh Kumar Parasar had sent a report to the jail authorities at that time. The official was later promoted as superintendent in the same Kishanganj jail.
