Varanasi: Congress leader and former Union minister Jairam Ramesh on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of weakening the democratic foundation of the country and threatening those who are raising their voice against his government, saying it was not a 'BJP Sarkar' but 'Modi Sarkar'.

He also termed the performance of PM Modi government as "an
arrogant one man-show," wherein ministers don't count, and
ministries don't count.

"PM Modi, despite being the PM is the minister incharge of all the ministries and all other ministers in his government are just mute spectators. Every decision is being taken by him," Mr Ramesh told reporters here, while presenting the report card of Narendra Modi-led NDA government which completes one year in office tomorrow.

"PM Modi is weakening the democratic foundation of the country and threatening those who are raising their voice against his government. NGO's and civil socity activists were being threatened with investigations and actions against them.

"We (the UPA government) brought RTI, but this government was trying to suppress its use, activists were being threatened to file RTI applications in the NDA rule," he alleged.

Mr Ramesh advised PM Modi to follow the footstep of former PM
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had strengthened the democratic foundation of the country and not at all an arrogant, and does not believe in running a one-man show like him.

"We do not expect Modi to take inspiration from Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru but he should at least learn something from his party leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the way (style) of government functioning," he said.

The former minister countered the claims by PM Modi and his ministers that there was no corruption in the NDA's one year rule unlike those of UPA.

"There are corruption in the NDA government, but currently it is not making headlines as that of ours, and the recent Rafael deal with France by the PM was the latest example of corruption of the Modi-led NDA government.

"When UPA had a deal it was 'Made in India and fly in India' but in NDA's government deal under PM Modi is 'Made in France and fly in India'," he said.
