Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, accused in the murder case of Sheena Bora, has told interrogators that while she hated her daughter, it wasn't her, but her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, who was responsible for the killing, police sources have told NDTV.

Indrani Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna were confronted with each other by interrogators on Saturday, where they argued and blamed each other, said sources. (10 Developments)

Sanjeev Khanna, while admitting to his complicity in the case, said he was dragged into the crime by Indrani Mukerjea with the promise of financial help, sources said.

However, what is now clear to the police is the strained relationship that Indrani Mukerjea and her children, Sheena and Mikhael Bora, shared. Details have emerged that prove there was anger and mistrust on both sides.

On Saturday, Mikhael Bora too was questioned by the police at a hotel in Bandra. Sources say, Mr Bora told the police that he spent a few months in a mental health clinic in Pune after his mother Indrani Mukerjea got him admitted there.

The police says since there was a strained relationship, every allegation and counter allegation will have to be verified and supported by evidence before they make an official statement.

Sources also say, Rahul Mukerjea, who was secretly engaged to Sheena Bora when she was killed, told the police he confronted his stepmother Indrani Mukerjea with Ms Bora's passport, but was told she had used another one to go to the US. Sheena Bora's passport was recovered from Rahul Mukerjea's Dehradun home by the Mumbai Police.

Rahul Mukerjea is the son of Indrani Mukerjea's husband Peter Mukerjea from an earlier marriage. He shares a fractured relationship with his father.

Rahul Mukerjea also said he told his father about his suspicion, but Peter Mukerjea did not believe him, a source close to the investigation said.
