India, Afghanistan, US Trilateral Meet Resumes This Year: Foreign Ministry

The MEA said the trilateral meeting of India, Afghanistan and US will resume this year.

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said the trilateral meeting of India, Afghanistan and the United States, which had stopped in 2013, will resume this year on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

"The trilateral started in 2012. Another round was held in 2013 and may be for scheduling reasons or other reasons it could not meet for two years and now it is going to meet again in 2016 on the margins of the UNGA," MEA official spokesperson Vikas Swarup told the media.

During the Second India-US Strategic and Commercial Dialogue (S&CD) in the national capital earlier on Tuesday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, "In view of the rapidly evolving regional and global situation, India looks forward to resuming the meeting of the trilateral with Afghanistan; consultations on Africa and on multilateral issues within this year."
