The Congress party is in the mood to revamp its organisation. And this time, it is likely to adopt a bottom-up approach.
Party sources say the leadership has directed all it's general secretaries to fill up all the posts of block-level and district-level presidents before April 15. The party will also effect changes in the state-level Pradesh Congress Committees or PCCs soon. These changes are expected to happen once the 3 member committee - appointed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi - submits it's report by the end of this month.
The party leader made it clear that this report will be given only to the congress president and will not be available even to senior party functionaries including members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
"The committee has been asked to find out the reasons for the poor showing by the party in recent elections and give their assessment," a senior party leader said.
Defence Minister A K Antony heads the committee and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde are the two othermembers. "They have been chief ministers or successfully running a state government," a Congress leader told NDTV.
The Committee has already met senior leader from Uttar Pradesh Sriprakash Jaiswal and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna last Sunday. Many in the party believe the organisational changes will be timed with a cabinet reshuffle once the Budget session of Parliament gets over in the third week of May.
Last week, Rahul Gandhi, after a two-day long exercise to analyse the UP poll results, indicated that organisational changes are in the offing and some tough decisions will be taken to fix accountability for the party's poor showing.
