Himachal Pradesh polls: Last day of campaigning today

Himachal Pradesh polls: Last day of campaigning today
Shimla: Top leaders from the Congress and BJP are crisscrossing Himachal Pradesh today on the last day of campaigning ahead of assembly elections on Sunday.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley will be campaigning in Shimla while Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will be reaching out to voters in Kangra.

Congress heavyweight Virbhadra Singh, who is facing allegations of corruption, will be holding public meetings in Kullu and Bilaspur.

All 68 constituencies in the state will be voting in a single phase. The results will be declared on December 20. Sixty companies of central paramilitary forces will be deployed on polling day.

The Congress had, on Thursday, alleged that unemployment in the state had shot up during the BJP's rule and that the Dhumal government had given the land mafia a free run.

"The number of unemployed registered or otherwise have gone up to 16 lakh in a population of 68 lakh," said Vijay Singh Mankotia, Congress candidate from Shahpur constituency.

Newspaper advertisements too have been a bone of contention between the Congress and the BJP. The Congress is crying foul over advertisements put out by the Dhumal government listing its achievements.
