Himachal Pradesh Issues Advisory For Tourists After 2 Die In Shimla

With heavy rains lashing different parts of Himachal Pradesh, the state disaster management department has issued advisories.

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has issued an advisory for tourists after two people from Jalandhar died this morning during a storm.

The two tourists were camping at a park in Narkanda, about 80 kilometres from the capital Shimla, when a tree fell on their tent during heavy rain and storm.

With heavy rains lashing different parts of Himachal Pradesh, the state disaster management department has issued advisories asking tourists to stay away from rivers and rivulets as there is an increase in water level and floods.

Tourists have also been cautioned against venturing into dense forest areas as there are chances of trees falling.

Dev Dutt Sharma, Special Secretary of Disaster Management wing, said that a meeting of public works department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has been summoned on June 14 to review disaster preparedness. The Deputy Commissioners in the districts with heavy tourist influx have been specially asked to review disaster management preparedness.
