Himachal Deploys Paralegals To Help In Note Exchange

The Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority directed all the district legal services to help

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (HPSLSA) on Tuesday directed all the district legal services authorities to deploy paralegals as volunteers to help the people in exchanging banned currency notes from banks.

A decision in this regard was taken on the direction of Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, HPSLSA Member Secretary Yashwant Singh Chogal was quoted as saying in a statement.

He said the volunteers were also asked to educate the public about the formalities required to be completed for depositing or withdrawing money from banks, besides for exchange of high-value banned currency notes.

Mr Chogal said that the cash ban has resulted in long queues outside banks and at times the public is not aware of the procedure for exchange of notes and filling up of forms, limits of withdrawal or other legal formalities.

"Some people are misusing the scheme by depositing money in accounts of other people on false pretexts, which could invite penal consequences. Therefore, the authority has decided to deploy the paralegals as volunteers to render legal services to the masses," he added.
