As monsoon continues, torrential rains wreak havoc across several states in the country.
A flood alert has been sounded in a dozen villages of Uttar Pradesh following the overflow of the river Yamuna. In cities like Bijnore and Najibabad, flood water have entered several villages destroying houses and crop fields.
The National Highway connecting Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand has also been closed.
In Vasai near Mumbai, the Vaitarna river has been flowing above the danger mark after continuous rainfall in the past 24 hours.
The river, that is now overflowing, could flood 13 nearby villages that have a population of over 15,000 people.
Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash Ratnagiri and neighbouring Sindhudurg district in Konkan region of the state, officials said.
Chiplun city was the worst affected in Ratnagiri with bazaar area being flooded and traffic coming to a halt on the Chiplun-Karad road due to severe water logging. Schools and colleges remained closed in the city.
Gujarat government on Thursday alerted the district administration of coastal regions in the state, following a warning by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) about heavy rains in the next few days.
Heavy rains lashed the coastal districts of Junagadh, Porbandar and Amreli on Thursday.
