Vadodara: In the wake of intense heatwave conditions in the state, Gujarat government has appealed people to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from sunstroke.

"We appeal people to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from sunstroke. Additionally, we have put all the district hospitals on alert and have directed them to provide immediate medical assistance to the people affected by sunstroke," Gujarat Health Minister Nitin Patel told PTI today.

Day temperatures in Gujarat are soaring and some places have recorded temperatures at even 43 degrees Celsius. The Gujarat government has also asked people to ensure that they don't get directly exposed to sunlight, wear light coloured cotton clothing, cap and use umbrella.

"We have asked people to drink ORS, homemade drinks like 'lassi' (a type of drink prepared using milk), lemon water, coconut water, buttermilk which help to re-hydrate the body," the government said in a statement.

It also suggested people to avoid venturing out between 2 pm to 4 pm.
