New Delhi: Government and government-aided schools went for an early summer vacation from Friday in view of extreme heat while private schools will take a decision on the issue on Saturday.

The Delhi government had issued an advisory on Thursday, asking all schools in the capital to close for the summer vacation from Saturday or Sunday due to the unprecedented heat wave.

A government official said that about 923 government and government-aided schools went on summer vacation.

However, classes for bridge courses, remedial teaching and special hobbies in these schools will function as usual, the official added.

The private schools are meeting on Saturday to decide on when to close the institutions for summer vacation.

"There is a proposal to close the schools for summer vacation from Monday. About 300 schools under the Federation of Public Schools in Delhi are meeting tomorrow to take the final decision," federation chairman R P Malik said.

The federation will discuss on issues of fee hike and heath care facilities in schools. The issue of health care facility has assumed significance in view of death of a teenage girl student after asthma attack in a school.
