Govt earmarks $1 trillion for infrastructure

New Delhi: More money will now be pumped in to improve India's airports, ports and highways as the government has earmarked 1 trillion dollars for infrastructure spending.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said that India will double its infrastructure spending in the next five year plan starting April 1, 2012 to achieve its target of 10 per cent growth to one trillion dollars.

He also said the government is betting on private players to pump in funds for mending the creaking infrastructure and may give them tax breaks for floating special infrastructure bonds.
