New Delhi:

Union home minister Rajnath Singh today said the government was working to protect minorities.

Speaking on the floor of Lok Sabha, Mr Singh said the government belives that security should be provided if attempts are made to hurt the religious sentiments of any person.

"As a concerned citizen and a parliamentarian, it is our responsibility to see that the minorities do not suffer from a sense of fear," he said. "In place of fear, we should try to instill in them a sense of confidence."

Criticising the opposition for repeated attacks on the government on this issue, he said, "Even if it is an incident that took place four months ago in any part of the country, it is raised in Parliament. This is a conspiracy."

He also offered to come out with a detailed statement on the number of communal incidents and attacks on places of worship under all regimes.

"I can come out with a full-fledged statement on communal incidents, giving all facts and figures... so the country knows under which government the maximum attacks have taken place," the home minister said.
