Goa Elections 2017: Now Punish Manohar Parrikar, Arvind Kejriwal Dares Election Commission

Arvind Kejriwal "dared" Election Commission to act against Manohar Parrikar's remarks on money for vote

Panaji: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, while campaigning in Goa, has allegedly made comments similar to those that landed Arvind Kejriwal in trouble with the Election Commission. In tweets, the Delhi Chief Minister has "dared" the Election Commission to take action against Mr Parrikar.

According to news agency IANS, Mr Parrikar told a small gathering at Chimbel near Panaji: "...I understand if someone organises a rally and you take Rs 500 for moving around with (the candidate), that is not a problem. But when you vote, choose the lotus (BJP's poll symbol). This you must remember."

The Defence Minister's comment came on a day the Election Commission directed its officials in Goa to file an FIR against Mr Kejriwal for making a similar statement.

At a rally in Benaulim earlier this month, Mr Kejriwal, had said: "If Congress or BJP candidates offer money, do not refuse it. Accept it as your own money. But when it comes to voting, press the button against the name of the AAP candidate."

Citing newspaper reports on Mr Parrikar's comment, Mr Kejriwal  urged action against the Defence Minister in tweets directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office and the Election Commission.

"Will EC dare take action against Manohar Parrikar?" he said in one tweet.

"I urge PMO to allow EC to act against Parrikar," he commented in another.

He also re-tweeted several posts from his party colleagues.

Goa will vote on February 4 for a new 40-seat assembly.
