Girl burnt alive in Madhya Pradesh

Girl burnt alive in Madhya Pradesh
Chhatarpur, MP:

It is a story of shame and horror in Madhya Pradesh where 16-year-old Ruksana died of her burn injuries. She was set on fire because she snubbed four boys who had been harassing her.

Ruksana had an altercation with the boys on Friday. They come to her house, poured kerosene over her and allegedly set her on fire.

"It's an unfortunate incident. Some of the culprits have been caught, rest will be arrested as well," Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said.

The police are now looking for the accused.

"There was a delay of an hour by police in taking action. Two police officers have been suspended. Three boys have been arrested and the interrogation is on," said Anil Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police, Chattarpur.

The accused, however, have not admitted to the crime.

"We have not set her on fire. We stay far off. How would we set her on fire? She did it on her own," said Sudama, one of the accused.

But the police are not buying this story and are on the lookout for the fourth culprit.
