Gadkari says find those who helped Headley in India

Nagpur: BJP president Nitin Gadkari has demanded a thorough probe to find out the role of all "pseudo-secularists" who helped 26/11 accused David Coleman Headley.

"There should be a proper investigation into the strong connections that Headley had built in India. A serious inquiry is needed to find out the role of the pseudo-secularists who helped him during his visits to India," Gadkari said.

The BJP chief feels Headley could not have visited India so many times and carried out his clandestine activities for such a long time without local help.

"Investigative agencies should explore who all he talked to, who all called him, lived with him, gave him shelter and helped him in other ways," Gadkari said.

He was critical of the "soft approach" of the Congress-led UPA government towards combating terror which had resulted in several terrorist attacks and frequent advisories by the Home Ministry and several countries (to their citizens visiting India) about possible terror attacks in India.

"In the US since 9/11, which happened nearly nine years ago, there has been no terror attack as they have taken strong steps. But in our country there are terror threats or acts every week... This is due to the soft policies of the government towards terrorists for vote bank politics," he said.

The BJP president said the government and Congress president Sonia Gandhi should be guided by "national interest" alone in the fight against terror.

He felt the recent talks between Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Yousuf Raza Gilani in Thimphu, Bhutan during the recent SAARC summit was of "no consequence" as long as Pakistan continued to sponsor terror.
