Four Die As Cold Wave Grips Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: Two people have died due to intense cold in Uttar Pradesh and as many were killed in fog-related incidents in the last 24 hours.

Cold wave tightened its grip on different parts of the state with mercury slipping to 2.4 Degrees Celsius in Nazibabad.

Two persons died of severe cold in Mahoba district. In another incident, a 45-year-old man was killed and five others were injured when two trucks collided due to fog in Musajhag area in Badaun, police said.

The injured were admitted to a hospital where their condition was stated to be stable, they said. In Saharanpur, a 32-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a bus in heavy fog near Kameshpur village.

Meanwhile, the local MeT office said cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the state with mercury plunging to 2.4 Degrees Celsius in Nazibabad. Dense to very dense fog affected normal life in a few places. Night temperature rose appreciably in Agra division and changed little elsewhere, it said.

It was guaged appreciably below normal in Gorakhpur, Faizabad, Kanpur, Moradabad, Lucknow divisions, below normal in Allahabad and Varanasi divisions, and normal in the remaining divisions of the state.

The weather department has said dense to very dense fog will occur at isolated places in the state tomorrow.
