Fog plays havoc with flight schedules
Delhi: Fliers had another harrowing day at the international airport today as dense fog played havoc with flight schedules leading to cancellations, delays or diversions.

At least 26 domestic and international flights were cancelled and 23 services, including seven international, diverted, a senior airport official said.

Three international services of Kuwait Airways and Jet Airways were cancelled. The Jet flight from Dubai was to take off at 3 am but was cancelled while the Kuwait Airways' flight from Kuwait City also met with same fate due to inclement weather.

The Kuwait Airways flight to Kuwait City was also called off.

The operations at the Indira Gandhi International airport were affected for 14 hours from 8:36 pm yesterday after the fog reduced the Runway Visibility Range to less than 100 metres.

Fog started to descend on the airport around 8 pm yesterday and gradually became dense.

The runway visibility hovered between 50 to 175 metres through the night, resulting in disruptions in flight operations.

Twelve flights to Bangalore, Nagpur, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Jaipur could not take off from Delhi due to dense fog while 11 from these cities could not land in the capital.

Twenty-three flights were diverted to Bangalore, Lucknow, Japipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and other cities. Yesterday, over 100 flights were affected when fog enveloped the airport. Over 40 flights, including 14 international ones, were diverted while 38 were cancelled.
