Flood Situation Worsens In Assam, 1.75 Lakh People Affected

Guwahati: Flood situation in Assam worsened today with nearly 1.75 lakh people suffering across six districts of the state.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), over 1.74 lakh people are still reeling under floods in 244 villages across Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Morigaon, Jorhat, Dhemaji and Biswanath districts.

Till yesterday, 1.21 lakh people were suffering in 163 villages across six districts.

Currently Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat in Jorhat and Dhubri town, while Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat, the ASDMA said.

Authorities are operating 19 relief camps in two districts, where 3,811 people are taking shelter.

Over 1,55,000 hectares of crop have been damaged so far in the state.

A number of roads, embankments and other infrastructure have been damaged in the last 24 hours in many districts.
