Gyansu (Uttarkashi):
It was supposed to be a long weekend outing for the family but ended tragically. Surat Singh, 38, set out with his family - wife Poonam, six-year-old son Shaurya, 8-month-old girl and 32-year-old brother in law for Mussoorie - from his village Gyansu in Uttarkashi district to visit their extended family in Dehradun.
When by late evening they did not reach, relatives tried to contact Surat Singh but found his phone was unreachable. Worried something had gone wrong, they informed police.
Today early morning, Surat Singh's car was found in deep gorge some 8 km from Mussoorie. All were found dead, except his young daughter who miraculously survived the cold and wet monsoon night.
The reason for the accident is believed to be a thick blanket of mist which envelopes the entire 15 kilometre stretch beyond Mussoorie to Suakholi where the accident took place.
