Everyone has to fall in line, says foreign ministry 'boss' Krishna

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S M Krishna's response to his junior minister Shashi Tharoor's tweeted views on the new visa rules is a smile and the message: "I am the boss...Everyone has to fall in line."

Responding to questions on Wednesday, Krishna said emphatically that as "the boss," he was happy with the way things were in his ministry and that "all is well".

"The broad policy is dictated by the Foreign Minister and everyone has to follow the same page.  Period...There can be different perceptions but there is a way to deal with those and I am sure Tharoor understands that," Krishna said.

Tharoor, he added, had met him on Wednesday. The Congress has already pulled up Tharoor.

On the government's new visa policy Krishna said, "I think the home ministry has a new policy after due deliberations...Based on feedback the Ministry of external Affairs gets, we take it up with Home and then if need be it can be taken up."

Krishna's firm message came after Shashi Tharoor criticized the government's new policy in short messages on the social networking site, Twitter. (Read: Shashi Tharoor tweets on visa regime)

According to the new rules, after every 180 days, foreigners with tourist visas now have to leave India for two months.

Tharoor had suggested this contradicts India's reputation for hospitality and would not help fight terrorists.
