Noida: Don't try to be an Englishman, speak English, but have a sense of pride for all Indian languages as well, Home Minister Rajnath Singh advised students of a private institute in Noida.

"One should speak English, but don't try to be an Englishman. You must have pride in being Indian and respect all the Indian languages" the minister said during speech.

"I am not talking about Hindi alone, but all Indian languages.

Mr Singh also expressed disappointment about children of the present generation not wishing their parents "properly" and just communicating with a "hi" or "bye".

"It is necessary to respect your parents, touch their feet and take their blessing. If a child is blessed by the parents, no one can stop her / him from reaching the greatest heights in life," he said.

The Home Minister urged the students to always pursue positivity in life as negativity is harmful to the society.

The Home Minister also asked the students to take pride in India's rich cultural heritage.

"Today, India is recognised globally for its contribution to Information Technology. Our government is committed to provide digital governance. The Digital India programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not only attract investments but also give jobs to nearly 18 lakh Indians," he said.

Mr Singh said India's software engineers have made the country proud with their talent and sheer hard work.

"We need to tap India's full potential in the IT sector," he said.
