Mumbai:
A Mumbai court today remanded all the 11 accused in the J Dey murder case, including journalist Jigna Vora, to judicial custody till January 16.
Senior MidDay journalist J Dey was shot dead in broad daylight by four motorcycle-borne assailants in a crowded street in suburban Powai on June 11 last year. Police have accused Ms Vora of giving details like Mr Dey's motorcycle registration number and his address to fugitive underworld don Chhota Rajan who allegedly masterminded the murder.
Mumbai Police had filed a chargesheet against 10 accused last month. It is expected to name Ms Vora in a supplementary chargesheet likely to be filed by February, sources said.
The chargesheet filed last month named Rohee Thangappan Joseph alias Satish Kaliya (34), the sharpshooter of the Chhota Rajan Gang who allegedly shot J Dey. It said that other alleged members of Rajan's hit squad - Abhijeet Shinde, Arun Dake, Sachin Gaikwad and Anil Waghmode - recced the parking lot where Dey used to park his motorcycle.
The accused have been charged with murder and conspiracy.
Mr Dey was known for his investigative reports and had reported extensively on the Mumbai underworld, including fugitive dons Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan.
