Deportation of Nepali student Neetu suspended

Mumbai: Maharashtra government has suspended deportation order against Neetu Singh, a Nepalese student of Pune Film Institute and estranged wife of Nepal politician.

Home Ministry sources told NDTV that the deported Nepali woman may be allowed to return on conditions to complete her course.

The police in Pune had deported the Nepalese student charging her of being a threat to national security.

The institute however said the girl was sincere and that the police did not follow proper norms. Neetu's friends say that her estranged husband, who is an influential Nepalese politician, might have orchestrated it.

Students of the institute and women's groups like All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) took the matter up with the central government.

The activists say Neetu is "repeatedly contacting" them from Nepal, urging them to "save" her life.
