Delhi's Odd-Even Plan: Private Schools Asked to Register Buses With DTC

To curb rising pollution level in the national capital, the Delhi government has decided to allow odd and even numbered cars on alternate days from January 1 to January 15.

New Delhi: The Delhi government has asked the private schools in the national capital to register their buses with Delhi Transport Corporation or DTC to enable their hiring for use as public transport during the 15-day trial for the odd-even scheme beginning on January 1.

The schools which do not have insurance/fitness certificate of any particular bus have also been asked to get the needful done by then.

The AAP government had last week ordered shutting down of all government, aided and un-aided/recognised private schools in Delhi from January 1-15 to enable procurement of the services of school buses for requirement of DTC at notified rates.

"The heads or authorised representatives of all the private unaided recognised schools are directed to get their buses registered and submit copies of Contract Carriage Permit (CCP), Registration Certificate, Insurance and Fitness certificates of their school buses," said a circular sent to schools by the Directorate of Education (DoE).

"You must ensure that all the buses deployed in respective schools get registered over the next two days. The schools should also ensure that the drivers and helpers concerned shall continue to work for running the respective buses during the period," it added.

To curb rising pollution level in the national capital, the Delhi government has decided to allow odd and even numbered cars on alternate days from January 1 to January 15.

According to the government's plan, it will run 6,000 additional buses to accommodate numbers of passengers after the implementation of odd-even scheme.

Nearly 10 lakh private cars will daily stay off Delhi roads once the odd-even formula is enforced with drastic reduction in traffic flow expected to significantly reduce the high-level of pollution in the city.

There are over 19 lakh private four-wheelers registered in Delhi and nearly half of these will go off the roads with the implementation of AAP government's ambitious odd-even formula.
