New Delhi: Delhi on Monday sizzled as the mercury peaked to a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius and humidity levels touching 63 per cent, forcing majority of the denizens to stay indoors.
The capital was experiencing an intense heat condition and high humidity for the past few days with the mercury hovering above 40 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature for the day (43C) rose from Sunday's 42.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum dipped to 23.2 degrees from yesterday's 29.3 degrees, the Met Office said.
The humidity level was also at a high of 63 per cent. The minimum humidity was 32 per cent.
"It was sweltering heat and I could not breathe because of high humidity," Darshita, a university student, said.
The weatherman has predicted a mainly clear sky with possibility of dust storms in some areas in the next 24 hours.
Maximum temperature is likely to be around 44 degrees and the minimum is expected to be at 25 degrees.
The month of May began with a sizzling 44.2 degrees, the season's highest.
In the past 10 years, the month of May has recorded maximum above 44 degrees five times. The record for the past ten years was 46 degrees, which was recorded on May 19, 2002.
