Delhi Government To Build 10 Elevated Corridors To Decongest Roads

Satyendar Jain has said the government would construct two-tier elevated roads - one dedicated to BRT and the other an expressway.

New Delhi: The Delhi government has said that it will construct 10 elevated corridors to decongest roads in the national capital. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyendar Jain said the government has identified locations where these new elevated corridors would be built.

"Out of the 10 elevated corridors, three will be two-tiered while others single-tiered," Mr Jain told reporters today. The two-tiered ones would also have Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) corridor, he said.

Elaborating about two corridors, Mr Jain said, "We have identified the roads from Anand Vihar to Tikri Border via Punjabi Bagh for construction of an elevated corridor."

He said the length of this project would be around 40 km. "Another elevated corridor would be built from Shastri Park to Tronica City," he said, adding that he would give the details of other corridors next week.

Yesterday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while announcing the second phahad said that his government was mulling constructing elevated BRT corridors.

He had said the government would construct two-tier elevated roads - one dedicated to BRT and the other an expressway.

According to the plan, buses would ply on the BRT corridor while cars and others vehicles on the expressway.
